Prayers are offered to Maa Durga, The Goddess of power and strength. People throng the Puja venues to seek blessings from Maa. In Maha Ashtami , all devotees get to taste the maha bhog , offered to Maa Durga . Having Maha Bhog is considered very auspicious. The last day of Puja is Bijoya Dashami, which is celebrated to mark the Triumph of good over evil. It is believed that on this very day, Lord Rama prayed to Maa Durga and brought an end to Ravana and his evil ways. That is why; the effigy of Ravana is burned with crackers on this day to celebrate the triumph of Lord Rama. After Dashami , The idol of Maa is immersed in water with great devotion and pomp and show.
Like every other Indian festival, people celebrate Durga Puja by adorning new clothes, and distributing and of course eating sweets. Kids enjoy a lot by burning crackers and playing with toy guns. Lot of diligence and perseverance is put in constructing the Puja Pandals and in decorating the Idols of Maa Durga. In some places even Puja Idol and Pandal competitions are also organized. Spinsters and bachelors bow and offer prayers to Maa asking her to bless them so that their quest for life partner ends and they can start their life anew with their beloved. This year, Durga Puja starts in on 25th of September 2009, which is Saptami. Here is wishing all the readers a very Happy Durga Puja. Here is praying Maa Durga whole heartedly seeking her blessings so that peace, prosperity, success and happiness dwell in the lives of one and all.
